A lot of people take parking lots for granted. They don't think about the maintenance of the parking lot stripes, or how each city has their own local ordinances that dictate how a parking lot should be striped. However, customers do notice when a parking lot has been ill maintained. Parking lots that have paint that is fading and where the pedestrian cross walks are hard to see are a reflection of the business that uses that parking lot. In these lots, even the act of parking itself can even be a challenge in these parking lots. The parking lot is one of the first things a customer sees when they come to your business, so in order to make a good impression on your customer it is important that you keep up with your parking lot.

1. Create enough spaces for everyone. Certainly one of my main pet peeves with parking lots is there seems to never be enough spaces. I go to the grocery store, and it's not possible to locate a space if it's around 5 p.m. If your establishment has a lot of events, make sure to plan your parking space accordingly and try to accommodate the customers. If you don't, you might potentially be turning away business because the customer got fed up and went to a different establishment.

2. Keeping the customer safe. Parking lot striping is very important when it comes to customer safety. Some things to make sure to include in your parking lot are: traffic arrows to distinguish flow of traffic, cross walks, no parking zones and fire zones.

3. Keep your parking lot legal. Some people are not aware that every city has their own rules when it comes to parking zones. In order to ensure that your parking lot will be in accordance to the city's laws be sure to visit the Department of Transportation.

4. Make sure you have regulation sized spaces and stripes. It seems pretty basic, if your spaces are too small, people won't be able to park in your spaces, so be sure that you know the regulation size of parking lot spaces.

5. Maintaining your parking lot. Weather will affect your striping of your parking lot. It is a vital aspect of customer safety that you put your parking lot on a schedule for maintenance to ensure that all aspects of your parking lot are working to an optimum level.

Though there's only five main things to consider when striping your parking lot, it remains a lot of work to make sure that you are doing everything up to code. Even if you're a do-it-yourselfer, this isn't like an interior decorating show; striping a parking lot requires knowledge and for a (professional look) special machines. It is best to use a professional company for your parking lot needs because they will know the local laws, regulation sizes and best ways to make sure customer safety.
